World-class opera on your doorstep

Exclusive local access – tickets from just €40 and €50 for two major opera productions at Blackwater Valley Opera Festival 2025

As the summer season approaches, Blackwater Valley Opera Festival is set to bring world-class music and vibrant cultural activity to Lismore and the wider region from 26 May to 2 June. Local businesses and residents are invited to take advantage of specially priced tickets – €40 and €50 – for two outstanding opera productions as part of this year’s festival.

At the heart of the programme is Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, performed by candlelight in the atmospheric setting of St Carthage’s Cathedral on Tuesday 27 May and Thursday 29 May. This fully staged production features Irish mezzo soprano Paula Murrihy in the dual role of Dido and the Sorceress, with the Irish Baroque Orchestra under conductor Nicholas McGegan.

Festival Sunday at Dromore Yard offers a different musical experience with Niamh O’Sullivan, BBC New Generation Artist, performing When Birds Do Sing – a lyrical recital dedicated to birds, music and the history of art – at 3pm on Sunday 1 June. Pre-booked Mezze picnics and drinks will be available on site, making it an ideal way to enjoy music in a scenic setting.

The June Bank Holiday weekend will be filled with music, including three recitals at St Carthage’s Cathedral on Saturday 31 May and Sunday 1 June, and the final opportunity to see Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Irish Chamber Orchestra at Lismore Castle on Sunday evening – tickets still available, but selling quickly.

With performances, dining, and local hospitality at its core, the festival is proud to offer accessible pricing for Chamber members and community supporters. Early booking is strongly recommended.
