In feudal Japan, a rōnin was a samurai who had no master. Viewed as a ‘wanderer’ or ‘a person of the waves (unrestrained),’ rōnin was someone who ‘found the way without belonging to one place.’ On November 3rd 2023 John G. Walsh created the rōnin challenge. He ‘wandered’ the Waterford greenway from Waterford city to Dungarvan and back, a distance of 93.6km, in 7 hours, 52 minutes and 34 seconds.
